On April 4, 2014, Dr. Cari Jackson spearheaded the “King Legacy Symposium on Community Economic Empowerment” which brought together spiritual, community and business leaders to address the intersection of theological and entrepreneurial strategies to foster economic empowerment of economically-disadvantaged communities. The Symposium partners were Center of Spiritual Light, Union Theological Seminary, New York Theological Seminary, and The Riverside Church. Spiritual leaders were invited to identify the ways their theological frames about money help and hinder economic empowerment. Symposium participants were invited to go beyond providing emergency and supplemental financial assistance services to develop economic empowerment programs.
